Assistant Professor AI-based Real Time Transport Supply-Demand Management
TU Eindhoven University of Techology, Eindhoven
Are you eager to develop the new research field of AI- based management system which in real time gives advice to travelers, transport providers and network managers to ultimately develop an efficient balance between transport demand and supply? Is your next dream move an Assistant Professor role within the research field of AI-based Real Time Transport Supply-Demand Management? Are you challenged by teaching Bachelor and Master level students? One where you're expected to write research proposals to acquire fund and publish in high quality journals and be member of committees within faculty and/ or university? Are you passionate about the topics of AI-based transport supply-demand management?Position contextHousten, we have a challenge. An extremely large amount of data is available regarding real time (private and public) vehicle positions, aggregate traffic conditions, real time states of infrastructure, route planning recommendation (to drivers who use such system), position of sharing services in the network, availability of parking areas, accidents and in the future information about the presence of Autonomous Vehicles in the network. To overcome the challenges cities are facing, such as emission and congestion, it is vital that the substantial amount and diversity of data to be collectively and simultaneously used to optimize the usage of services and infrastructure by giving the right people, right types of advice at right times and right places and update the system in real time given citizens' reaction (to the recommendation). This reduces pressure on infrastructure (roads and parking for example), and allows valuable land in city areas to be better used for green and/or community-based facilities. The challenge therefore necessitates a system which optimizes the traffic network by collecting real time information, and providing recommendations to the drivers (as close to their preference as possible, whilst respecting their temporal and spatial constraints) in terms of mode choice, route choice, destination choice, departure time and activity duration. The system also enables the traffic infrastructure to be adjusted in real-time to maximize the efficiency of traffic. In the future, when AV would be part of the urban fleet (mixed fleet), having such a system in place which encompasses the real time information of manual cars, AV and states of infrastructure, would guarantee higher level of safety by communicating information to relevant parties (drivers, AV, infrastructure and transport service providers). As an assistant professor, you will contribute to achieving the educational and research objectives of the chair of urban planning and transportation group, within the unit Urban Systems and Real Estate (USRE). Part of your task is supervising of BSc, MSc and co-supervising of PhD students. You will contribute in teaching of courses at Bachelor and Master level. PhD on Cybercriminal Frontiers of Social Engineering
TU Eindhoven University of Techology, Eindhoven
Cyber-attacks targeting human users are on the rise both in sophistication and scale. Social engineering comprises an evolving set of techniques and capabilities that allow attackers to target with increasing precision Internet users at scale. Novel AI-based content generation tools, such as LLMs employed by chatbots, are now increasingly available to criminals to run Internet-scale social engineering attacks over many vectors, from email to voice calls to Internet messaging. The availability of personal target information through social media and personal websites (Open Source INTelligence, or OSINT), combined with the capability to automatically process and synthetize this information, will soon allow attackers to deliver targeted social engineering attacks at Internet-scale. The criminal market ecosystem supporting attack capabilities is already picking up on new (criminal) business opportunities to enable the next generation of social engineering attacks. The question of whether our defenses are capable of addressing and mitigating these upcoming threats is an open, and critical, one. This PhD track is focused on identifying emerging threats in the social engineering landscape as enabled by the criminal ecosystem, identify gaps with current (technical or non-technical) defense techniques, and propose, implement, and demonstrate the efficacy of novel defenses addressing that gap. The Threat Analysis group within the SECurity cluster of TU Eindhoven, the Netherlands, is uniquely equipped to support this research providing multi-year experience and access to prominent criminal markets, and years-long experience on tailored social engineering techniques and experimentation. The group also provide direct access to the ESH-SOC (Eindhoven Security Hub Security Operation Center), an operative environment collecting threat data from third party IT infrastructures to provide information and an experimentation environment for the detection and investigation of incoming threats. This position offers a unique opportunity to conduct multi-disciplinary research in the field of cybersecurity, offering a broad view of attacker and defenders both from a privileged observation viewpoint (criminal markets access, ESH) and an experimental one. This position is part of the NWO/NWA INTERSECT project Grant Number NWA.1160.18.301. More information on the project is available here: https://intersct.nl/.Requirements: A master's degree (or an equivalent university degree) in Computer Science or equivalent. A strong background and interest in cybersecurity and propensity and natural interest towards multidisciplinary perspectives on open problems Experience in empirical methods and statistical analysis is welcome, but not required. Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and interested in collaborating with industrial partners. Initiative and motivation to work independently. Interest in developing your teaching skills and coaching students. Fluent in spoken and written English (C2/C1 level).Salary Benefits: A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work on a beautiful, green campus within walking distance of the central train station. In addition, we offer you: Full-time employment for four years, with an intermediate evaluation (go/no-go) after nine months. PhD's on neuromorphic computing & engineering: algorithms&hardware architectures
TU Eindhoven University of Techology, Eindhoven
The Neuromorphic Edge Computing Systems (NECS) Lab at the Eindhoven University of Technology invites applications for multiple Ph.D. positions from passionate and innovative young researchers. Our mission is to overstep the boundaries of artificial intelligence (AI) and neural networks, challenging the current computing paradigms by drawing inspiration from the most sophisticated system known—the human brain.Despite significant advances in AI, current systems must catch up to the animal kingdom's efficiency in processing complex, real-time tasks with minimal energy in uncertain conditions. This limitation stems from a fundamental difference in design philosophy; while nature leverages distributed processing and inherent noise tolerance, modern computing relies on deterministic, bit-perfect operations with a clear separation between memory and computation. To bridge this gap, the NECS Lab is pioneering research into brain-inspired computing models that mimic the natural neural system's computational physics. Our research entails the development of novel brain-inspired computing theories, learning systems, and the design of ultra-low-power circuits, systems, and computing architectures. We are seeking candidates for several PhD positions, each focusing on one or more of the following cutting-edge research topics:Ultra-low-power Mixed-signal Circuits and Architecture: Design of novel CMOS technologies for neural networks embodying the brain's adaptive capabilities. Projects aim to replicate the self-healing abilities of neural systems, which are distinctive traits of biological neural systems.Event-based Sensing & Computing: Development of event-based sensory perception systems, with a focus on low-power radar sensing for applications in autonomous vehicles and robotics. This research will pioneer a brain-inspired framework for active perception.Spike-based Neuromorphic Hardware for Machine Intelligence: Embedding complex AI functionalities into neuromorphic hardware augmented by emerging technologies (e.g., ReRAM, Phase-Change Memories) for increasing the energy efficiency of current deep learning models. This involves integrating cutting-edge nanomaterials into architectures optimized for AI.Bio-inspired Online Learning Algorithms: Creation of spike-based online learning algorithms for real-time adaptation to hardware degradation and input changes. This includes developing unsupervised methods for drift compensation in physical systems. With these projects, the NECS lab aims to fundamentally understand neural and cognitive processes in the AI domain. We strive to have a tremendous impact in the computer sciences, electronics, and robotics sectors, paving the way for a new generation of neuro-inspired processors for efficient autonomous agents.Job DescriptionWe offer an exciting Ph.D. opportunity for a pioneering approach to neuromorphic engineering and computing, drawing inspiration from neural mechanisms observed in the animal kingdom. These cross-disciplinary projects seek to revolutionize sensing, computing, and learning by adopting the computational primitives found in natural neural systems: the massively parallel networks of spiking neurons and adaptive synapses.Key responsibilities:Engage in groundbreaking research to develop advanced neuromorphic sensing, and computing systems by taking inspiration from the sensing and computing capabilities of natural neural systems.Innovate in the areas of signal encoding, processing pipelines, and embedded computer architectures to emulate bio-inspired computational models effectively.Explore and implement beyond traditional deep learning techniques, moving towards the next generation of neuromorphic technologies.
